- Ozark National Scenic Riverways
Ozark National Scenic Riverways is at its wildest and scenic best on the Jacks Fork from the Mo. 17 bridge crossing to Alley Spring. The Jacks Fork can be floated year-round if you have learned to "read" the water currents and are prepared to sacrifice some aluminum from your canoe to the underlying rocks. But spring is the best time of year to float for the water is up. There are only a few thin shoals where you will have to step out and lead your canoe; you can't portage. - University of Wisconsin -- Wisconsin-Madison
For the fifth year in a row, the University of Wisconsin-Madison team has captured the 'America's Cup of Civil Engineering' at the American Society of Civil Engineers' (ASCE) 20th Annual National Concrete Canoe Competition. Their technical skills, ingenuity and dedication propelled them to victory in their179-pound, natural gray canoe, the Descendent. As the winner of the 2007National Concrete Canoe Competition, which took place in Seattle , the team will ... be invited to participate in the 30th Annual Dutch Concrete Canoe Challenge in the Netherlands in September. - Alexander Mackenzie -- Pacific Ocean
Returning to England in 1791, Mackenzie studied surveying and astronomy in preparation for his goal to reach the Pacific. He returned to Lake Athabasca in 1792 and made his way to Fort Fork at the junction of the Peace and Smoky Rivers. In May of 1793, he set out for the Pacific in a 25 foot canoe with nine men and 3,000 lbs. of equipment. - Texas State Parks -- Rio Grande
Located just north of Del Rio on Texas' famed Devil's River, the Devil's River State Natural Area offers a variety of outdoor activities in a remote setting. Canoeing, kayaking, mountain biking, hiking, fishing and swimming are just few of the many activities available. - Grand Portage National Monument -- Pigeon River
The Grand Portage trail itself is an 8 1/2 mile trail connecting Grand Portage with Fort Charlotte on the Pigeon River. Voyageurs from the interior of Canada would carry their furs by canoe to Fort Charlotte, and portage the bundles of fur to Grand Portage. There they would meet their counterparts from Montreal, and exchange the furs for trade goods and supplies. Each canoe "brigade" would then return to its starting place.[1] - Chamizal National Memorial -- Chamizal National Memorial Theater
The Chamizal National Memorial facilities and grounds are staffed, operated, and protected by National Park Service employees -- rangers, theater technicians, guards, maintainance crews, and administrative specialists. This National Memorial is a unit of the national park system, along with Yellowstone, Statue of Liberty, Mt. Rushmore, Yosemite and more than 360 other parks. - Missouri National Recreational River
If there is anything to do along the Missouri National Recreational River it is just about anything you can image in the water. Power boating, jet skiing, sailing, fishing, canoeing and kayaking are all popular activities. A visit to Lewis and Clark Lake offers swimming in the calm waters behind Gavins Point Dam and divides the two units of the national park. Eight state parks, five in South Dakota and three in Nebraska, as well as an excellent Army Corps of Engineering facility complete the area and offer plenty of land-based exploration. - Romantic Getaway
.*Please note - when setting your Romantic Getaway, Villas By The Sea requires a 72 hour advance notice minimum - in order to accommodate your requests. Rates are subject to change without notice and are based on availability. - Voyageurs National Park -- Kabetogama Peninsula
One of the striking things about the Voyageurs National Park is its wilderness nature. There are few roads in the park (less than 6 miles total!), and for the most part the visitor who wants to experience the park is going to have to get out of the car and into a canoe, motorboat, or other watercraft. There are trails and old "tote" or logging roads in the interior of the park, particularly on the Kabetogama Peninsula, but the main mode of visitation is surely on one of the many lakes in the park. The view familiar to most visitors to the park is the shoreline of the lake, and to the fortunate ones the view is from a watercraft skimming across the surface of a lake. - Camping -- Camping Experience
What camping gear would you take to the mountains to make it a pleasurable experience (e.g., tent, cooking stove, etc.)? What problems could occur and what precautions would you take to prevent them?
