The most well known medicine for Candida might be Nystatin. According to the PDR, no detectable blood levels are found following oral administration of the drug at recommended doses. It is, therefore, effective at reducing localized vaginal or intestinal yeast growth, but cannot travel through the blood stream to handle the infections in other areas. Another drug Nizoral impairs the productions of ergosterol, a vitamin D like substance, which is vital to the integrity of the yeast cell membranes. This drug is difficult for Candidiasis patients to absorb because proper stomach acid is required to absorb it. Most patients are deficient in stomach acid. Yeast infections sometimes produce symptoms that make people believe they have excess acid.

Candida is a type of yeast-like detrimental fungi. Candida albicans is one of 70 different species of Candida yeast. Candida albicans inhabits the intestines of all humans. The excessive proliferation of Candida albicans is called Candidiasis and can be in the Intestines, Vagina, Mouth, or Esophagus. Systemic Candidiasis is an overgrowth of candida throughout the body. It is estimated that 1/3rd of the world population suffer from Candida albicans overgrowth.

A person in the Fourth Stage of Candida may experience a virtual SHUTDOWN OF VARIOUS ORGAN SYSTEMS of the body. For example, the adrenal glands may stop functioning when the Endocrine System fails, or the Digestive System may stop, producing vomiting or severe constipation. The extreme fatigue may escalate into TOTAL MUSCLE WEAKNESS, such as the neck muscles no longer being able to hold up the head. The body rashes may escalate into HIVES or BOILS. The Circulatory System may be swamped with so much yeast that the capillaries are clogged, causing HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE, NUMBNESS OF EXTREMITIES, and EASY BRUISING. The person may run a low-grade fever, but the hands and feet will often be very cold.

As well as anti-fungal drugs and eliminating antibiotics, diet is an important part of most Candida treatment programs. The purpose of a Candida reduction diet is to eliminate sugary starchy foods that "feed" the yeast infestation, by sticking with a restricted foods list. Once you get on the anti-candida diet you can expect to see an improvement within 2-4 weeks. Once you have the Candida under control then you can slowly start adding restricted foods back into your diet.

Yeast infections such as Candida were recognized centuries ago as an indicator of much larger underlying diseases such as diabetes mellitus, malignant tumors, and chronic infections. (Sort of the miners canary.) When antibiotics are used, there is a flip-flop in the balance of the natural occurring flora in the mouth (and elsewhere) where the normal flora is damaged by the antibiotic therapy to the advantage of the fungus, which then blooms. Damage to the mucus membranes and to the salivary glands ... allow for Candida colonization. Dry mouth (xerostomia), upsets the balance of microorganisms in the oral cavity. When the delicate balance of normal and abnormal bacteria is disturbed, an overgrowth of this fungus may occur.

In the First Stage of Candida, the mucous membrane areas of the body may be infected. These include the mouth, vagina, nose, and respiratory System. Besides vaginal infections, severe P.M.S., urinary tract infections, body rashes, acne, and oral thrush, ALLERGIES to foods, dust, molds, fungus, yeast, inhalants, and chemicals are the most common symptoms. Each day more people seem to be allergic to everything in their environment. Repeated bouts of bronchitis, sinusitis, tonsillitis, and strep or staph infections may be typical. Mononucleosis and pneumonia may ... be noted.
