Cameroon is the fifth-largest oil producer in sub-Saharan Africa and produced 100,000 barrels per day in 1999. Elf, Perenco, and Pecten International (a subsidiary of Shell) have produced crude oil from several different deposits. Petroleum production began in 1977 and reached a peak of 9 million metric tons in 1986, before declining to 6 million metric tons in 1996. Thereafter, production stabilized, and oil revenues in 1999-2000 surged from US$500 million to nearly US$900 million with the doubling of oil prices. In the late 1990s, Cameroon revised its laws to stimulate additional exploration, but has so far had limited success. One area where oil reserves hold promise is the Bakassi Peninsula, a region ... claimed by neighboring Nigeria in a dispute that has been referred to the International Court of Justice.
The first Europeans to reach the coast of Cameroon were the portuguese in 1472. Before then , little is known about Cameroon. Amazed by the many giant shrimps on the shores, they named the coast "Rio Dos Camaroes"- hence the country's name Cameroon. For the next 400 years, the portuguese will to practice slave and commodities trade. After the abolition of slavery , the Germans arrived in the late 19th century and took over the country which became a german colony. The Germans were active colonisers building schools, railways and plantations.

Cameroon has four patterns of drainage. In the south, the principal rivers are the Ntem, Nyong, Sanaga, and Wouri. These flow southwestward or westward directly into the Gulf of Guinea. The Dja and Kadéï drain southeastward into the Congo River. In northern Cameroon, the Bénoué River runs north and west and empties into the Niger. The Logone flows northward into Lake Chad, which Cameroon shares with three neighbouring countries.
C/cameroon Cameroon has been growing coffee since the early 20th century and is now the 15th largest producer of coffee in the world and 5th largest producer in Africa. Despite this it is an origin most consumers and coffee professionals haven't heard of. The Main reason being 85% of its production is commercial grade robusta that disappears into obscurity in mass produced blends. Cameroon is unique in African Arabica growing countries in that it is located on the western coast of Africa rather than East Africa where all of the better known origins are clustered. Most of Cameroon's coffee is grown by small garden farmers on plots of only a few acres, loosely planted along with other crops. Camplami is a cooperative that grows a varietal brought from Java, Indonesia that produces a lot of longberries.
Flag of Cameroon is three equal vertical bands of green on hoist side, red, and yellow with a yellow five-pointed star centered in the red band. Cameroon enjoys good relations with the United States and other developed countries. It has particularly close ties with France, with whom it has numerous military, economic, and cultural agreements. China has a number of health and infrastructure projects underway in Cameroon, and it has ... pledged $1 million in military aid. Cameroon enjoys generally good relations with its African neighbors. Cameroon has successfully resolved its border dispute with Nigeria in the oil-rich Bakassi Peninsula through peaceful legal means after having submitted the case to the International Court of Justice (ICJ). With the support of the UN, both countries are working closely together to peacefully implement the ICJ ruling, and a genuine peaceful turnover of the peninsula by Nigeria has begun.
