Calvinism: People
built 218 days ago
No one type of government... whether democracy, republic, or monarchy, was thought to be divinely ordained for any certain age or people, although Calvinism showed a preference for the republican type. 'Whatever the system of government,' says Meeter, 'be it monarchy or democracy or any other form, in each case the ruler (or rulers) was to act as God's representative, and to administer the affairs of government in accordance with God's law. The fundamental principle supplied at the same time the very highest incentive for the preservation of law and order among its citizens. Subjects were for God's sake to render obedience to the higher powers, whichever these might be. Hence Calvinism made for highly stabilized governments.

If this is genuinely how this brother sees it, then how can he ... say Calvinism need not become a matter of fellowship? Is he really advocating fellowship with fatalists? The accusation that Calvinism is fatalism is an old ploy by those who either do not understand the issues or who would rather promote fear than understanding among God's people. The charge has been repeatedly and adequately answered, including by the author of the book which is cited in the above quote. Terrance Tiessen writes, "Calvinism is often charged with fatalism, but the models are distinct." He further notes that the charge is commonly made by "proponents of the models that define human freedom as libertarian [who] often equate Augustinian or compatibilist positions with fatalism."[48]

Calvinism makes automatons of people. An automaton is defined as a machine or control mechanism designed to follow automatically a predetermined sequence of operations or respond to encoded instructions. If man has no free will he is a puppet not a human being.

Calvinism asserts that God does not select some people to be the elect on the basis of any virtuous quality or positive act. Rather it is outside of one's power to become a part of the elect.
