Calvinism does not deny that man has free-will. What it does teach along with man’s free-will is that man is by nature totally depraved. As a result of this depravity he naturally wills to do evil continually--And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the Earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually [GEN 6:5]. Note the phrase following the flood ...: for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth [Ibid. 8:21]. The Hebrew word for youth is not talking about a teenager.

On the other side of the coin is the Free Will teaching that was introduced by James Arminius to counter Calvinism. In the zeal to counter Calvinism, the Free Will of man became his central theme and the same pitfalls of force fitting scripture to fit Free Will became the same problem as it did for Calvin.

Calvinism has ... become a danger and threat to the church of the Lord. Decades ago, preachers used to preach upon it frequently but now it is rare to hear an entire sermon on it. Many members of the church think it is wrong because it "sounds" wrong or because Mom, Dad or the preacher said it was wrong. They cannot begin to tell anyone why it is wrong.
Many have a less-than-precise understanding of Calvinism. They think Calvinism teaches if you are saved you won’t fall away or if you fall away you were never saved.
