This short discourse explains the abuses that Calvinism makes in claiming for itself passages that were written to/about Israel. As with any false teaching there are several “proof-texts” to substantiate one’s view. Two of Calvinism’s main texts happen to be one chapter apart. As this author will soon show, the context of these texts have nothing to do with the body of Christ, and by showing the real context, one can begin to see the whole system of thought collapse:

Calvinism holds to perseverance of the saints while Arminianism holds to conditional salvation. Perseverance of the saints refers to the concept that a person who is elected by God will persevere in faith and will never deny Christ or turn away from Him. Conditional salvation is the view that a believer in Christ can, of his/her own free will, turn away from Christ and thereby lose salvation.

As with the other points of Calvinism, real problems arise for the supporter of unconditional eternal security. The teaching can be quite dangerous, for it directly influences the way the Christian lives. The case of the faithful church member turned dope addict aptly illustrates one of the dangers of this teaching.

This early Southern Baptist theological consensus can be identified by tracing the influence of confessional Calvinism on the formation of the Convention. In 1742 the first Baptist association in America adopted the 1689 London Baptist Confession as its own. Known now as the Philadelphia Confession of Faith, this summary of Christian teaching was greatly respected by Baptist churches across America. As Timothy George notes,
