United Offensive follows a similar format to that found in Call of Duty. You play as three Allied soldiers--an American paratrooper, a British SAS commando, and a Soviet infantryman--who are caught in the great struggle against Nazi Germany. Over the course of the single-player campaign, you'll go from the frozen siege of Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge to the epic German counterattack at Kursk. Throughout most of the campaign, you'll participate in huge, heavily scripted, set-piece battles that make the squad-based battles in Call of Duty look downright minuscule in comparison.

The good news is that the expansion is in many ways a lot like Call of Duty. As in CoD, there are three campaigns--a white-knuckle American Campaign in which the player takes the role of a paratrooper during the Battle of the Bulge (and which, like the CoD American campaign, cribs unrepentantly from Band of Brothers); a British Commando campaign which has a few moments, but whose stealth aspects are out of place in this game; and a hard-hitting Russian campaign starting at the battle of Kursk and proceeding across the Ukraine to the liberation of Kharkov.

After recovering what breath, cvg ask Robb whether there's pointing at be any movie tie-ins in UO, as there were in Call Of Duty? "The generation the we're trying to aim the game at have mainly experienced WWII via Band Of Brothers and WWII movies," says Robb. "We want to keep connections across multiple media, just like CoD did with its Enemy At The Gates quest, because it pulls at a lot more people. Some levels in UO have a pretty direct connection with these, while others have none."
