California Games 2 is based on five separate sub-games, each one different from the other, but all of them based on supposedly common Californian recreational activities. Pick your sporting vehicle, whether it be a hang glider, skateboard or surfboard, and be prepared to risk life and limb as you compete in these parochial pastimes.
The Californian desert is the scene for the toughest of the California games - BMX Bike Racing. Seated on your dirt bike at the top of the first ramp, the course extends to the right of the screen and must be completed in two minutes or under. You are judged on the number and duration of stunts accomplished, and bonus points are awarded for the time remaining on completion of the course.

The sound and graphics in California Games are a good indication of what the Lynx is capable of. Color, hue, and animation are used well throughout, providing realistic-looking backgrounds and characters. The scrolling is smooth, and there are a few graphic treats, like the semi-transparent tube in Surfing, and the camera zoom in/zoom out on the Halfpipe.
