California Games: Events
built 634 days ago
California Games is the fifth in the games series, and boasts six events. Those of you familiar with the previous releases will recognise the standard options screen. This allows up to eight players to compete in all or some events, practise an event or view the record table. When a competition starts, all players input their name and choose a sponsor (there are nine, including Casio and Kawasaki) before undertaking the following events:

California Games is a card for beginning video players. The individual games are fun at first, but all of them are fairly easy, and most dedicated gamers will master them in a short period of time. This is especially noticeable when playing by yourself, and the game soon becomes an exercise in "can I beat my previous score?". More contests would have helped, as well as options to adjust the difficulty or a "tournament" consisting of all events.
EVENT RECORDS: If an event record is broken or tied in any event, California Games saves the name of the record-breaking player. The records are displayed on the Event Records screen. If a new record is set for an event, the previous record is erased and the new information appears in its place.

The original California Games succeeded because its events were well thought out and easy to play. However, this sequel uses what can only be described as 'left over' events – and it shows. Starting on a typically sunny Californian beach, you are invited to select an event by positioning a Seagull on to one of five, typically hip characters. sorry, boring.
To top it all California Games offers a multi player mode where up to eight players can join. Each player gets to choose a name together with a sponsor, there are nine different companies to choose from. When everybody is ready you have to choose the events you want to play. You can play all, just a few or only one if you want. On each event you have the option to do a practice round or view the current high score stored in the database.
California Games allows for up to eight players to compete in rotation through either single events, a selection of your favorites, or all six events. A single event can ... be selected to practice and gain proficiency The users can name their players and points are awarded for each event depending on how each player finishes. Once all events have been completed the total scores for all players are tabulated and a winner is declared.
