The Cadillac XLR is a hardtop convertible. Press a button and the top goes up or down in 30 seconds. With the top up, the XLR looks like an edgy, powerful coupe, and it acts like one. Its styling is powerful and distinctive and its interior is luxurious and attractive. It's smooth, quiet and pleasant when cruising, top up or top down.

The Cadillac XLR is available as a two-door, two-seat roadster only. Its retractable hardtop is power-operated and goes from open to closed in about 30 seconds. Virtually every luxury feature comes standard, including a navigation system, traction control, stability control, adaptive high-intensity discharge headlights, rear parking sensors, headlamp washers, dual-zone climate control, a 250-watt sound system with an in-dash CD changer and a 7-inch touchscreen for driver information, entertainment and navigation system control. The XLR boasts an upscale cabin complete with Eucalyptus wood trim and aluminum accents in addition to leather seating.
Cadillac XLR's bold exterior hints at the power innovation that lies beneath. With its advanced 4.6L Northstar(R) V8 VVT (Variable Valve Timing) engine, XLR(tm) is a refined powerhouse. Driver Shift Control transforms the XLR five-speed automatic transmission into a clutchless manual, allowing manual shifts with little more than a tap. Magnetic Ride Control(tm) delivers a smooth, comfortable and confident ride while StabiliTrak(r) provides control and confidence on almost any road or in almost any weather condition. Within XLR, contemporary eucalyptus wood accents, Bvlgari-designed gauges and striking aluminum accents combine to provide a luxurious and inviting environment. At the touch of a button, the hardtop retracts, letting you experience the pure exhilaration of open-air motoring.
To ensure the XLR exhibits precise, responsive steering, Cadillac has adopted Magnasteer, a speed-variable power-assisted system, combining conventional hydraulics with patented electro-magnetic control technology. Steering effort is applied via magnetized "doughnuts" mounted around the output shaft, which stiffen the rate as vehicle speed increases. The system is tuned to begin subtly increasing effort after about 40 miles per hour. This allows for effortless low-speed maneuverability for parking and increased control at high speeds.
2006 Cadillac XLR Cadillac introduced the XLR at the 2003 Detroit Motor Show, and it entered production in the 2004 model year. Prior to production the XLR appeared as the Evoq in auto shows. It has a base price of US$76,650. Sales have been below expectations. Rather than reaching 6,000 per year, Cadillac had sold just 4,745 in 18 months as of March 2005. According to Cadillac, 3,730 were sold in the United States in all of 2005.
The Cadillac XLR debuted for the 2004 model year with a five-speed automatic transmission (with a manual shift mode) instead of the current six-speed automatic. The six-speed debuted for '07, as did the Passion Red and Platinum Edition models. Otherwise, the XLR has remained largely unchanged during its first few years on the market.
