The Cadillac Seville is a luxury car that was manufactured by the Cadillac division of American automaker General Motors as a specialty model in the 1950s and 60s. As a regular production vehicle from 1975 to 2004, the Seville was a Cadillac in a smaller format. It was traditionally second in the Cadillac lineup after the top-rung Eldorado, and more focused on technology than the sales-leader Deville.

The first generation of the Cadillac Seville was seen from 1976 until 1979 and was first based on the GM X body platform, which was a rear wheel drive platform. This was the same platform that was used for the Chevy Nova. Cadillac added a more stylized body to the vehicle that made the Seville stand out, though the platform had been used before. The German Opel Diplomat was ... an option, but Cadillac ultimately chose the X body platform because of budget concerns. In the beginning, the Seville was almost identical to the Nova, right down to the brakes and the lug nuts! It wasn’t until the 1977 model that Cadillac changed up the Seville so that it had different lugs as well as new rear brakes.

The first use of the Seville name was on a hardtop version of the 1956 Cadillac Eldorado convertible. Four Eldorado Seville 4-door hardtops were built in 1957, but it is the outlandish tailfins found on the 1959 model that are most remembered. 1960 was the last year for the Eldorado Seville.

[W]ith a $12,479 base price when it went on sale in April 1975, the Seville was almost $2,000 more expensive than the next most expensive Cadillacs — the $10,354 Eldorado convertible and $10,414 Fleetwood Brougham sedan. Even in that very abbreviated first-year production run, Cadillac sold 16,355 Sevilles.
