Cadillac Escalade: Lincoln Navigator
built 657 days ago
On the road, the nimbleness of the Cadillac Escalade is a pleasant surprise. The steering is light and reasonably precise, a nice compromise between the weight of the BMW X5 or Audi Q7 and the vagueness of the Lincoln Navigator. In spite of having a live-axle suspension (as opposed to an independent suspension design, as found on some of the newest SUVs), the Escalade manages bumps beautifully, thanks to the road-sensing Autoride suspension.

2008 Cadillac Escalade Though the Cadillac Escalade isn't cheap, most reviewers agree that it offers a good value within its class. Edmunds notes that in the realm of full-size luxury SUVs, "the 2007 Cadillac Escalade excels. Like-priced competitors such as the Infiniti QX56 and Lincoln Navigator may edge it out in one area or another, but overall the Escalade is a superior vehicle." Consumer Guide gave the 2007 Escalade its "Recommended" rating, while Edmunds says "paying a lot more money for a Lexus LX 470 or Land Rover Range Rover is an exercise in diminishing returns. Unless you're an avid off-roader, these vehicles provide little if any worthwhile benefit over the Escalade." Despite these and other accolades, IntelliChoice has not yet rated the 2008 Escalade, but gave the 2007 base model a value rating of "average" for its predicted five-year cost of ownership compared to other vehicles in its class.
The only nameplate to ... win last year was the Cadillac Escalade, as the industry group declared the Caddy a victor in 2006. However, the Lincoln Zephyr was chosen by both voting parties last year, and the winning Lincoln MKZ this time around is a direct replacement for the Zephyr in the 2007 model year. Although domestic models fared well in 2006 as well, more imports were recognized in the previous competition, including vehicles from Audi, Land Rover, Mazda, Subaru and Toyota.
