Caddyshack was a bona fide hit; throughout the '80s and '90s, director Harold Ramis would continue to create such hits as Ghostbusters, Groundhog Day, and Analyze This. ~ Jeremy Beday, All Movie Guide.

Caddyshack is a waste of a movie. The combination of several great actors somehow really fizzles in this movie. Only one character is the least bit capable of extracting any degree of interest, and that character doesn't get much screen time.

In 2000, Caddyshack was placed at number 71 on the American Film Institute's list of the 100 funniest American films. Many outside critics were upset by this low ranking. In 2005, a line from the movie was chosen by AFI for their list of the top 100 movie quotes from U.S. films. This film is ... second on Bravo's "100 Funniest Movies"....

Though only a modest hit at the box-office, "Caddyshack" has since become a cult classic and has always been a part of 80's history. The movie is full of laughter, and it probably owes most of it to Rodney Dangerfield, but the gopher is the real star of the movie.

This comedy returns to the exclusive but crazy country club golf course seen in the original Caddyshack. This time its the blue-bloods against the blue collars as a loud, vulgar self-made millionaire tries to join the stuffy upper-crust club after his daughter falls in love with the son of one of the members. Naturally, the boisterous millionaire is rejected by the genteel jerks. He retaliates by buying the golf course and turning it into an ultra-tacky amusement park. Merry mayhem ensues, but in the end, the snobs learn a valuable lesson, the millionaire gets to join, and his daughter and her lover are finally united. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide

Caddyshack enjoys no small legion of ardent fans. These are the folks who take Chevy Chase's on-screen admonishment to "Be the ball," as a truism, a sort of widely applicable movie wisdom
