The Cabbage Soup Diet is a 7 day meal plan, aimed at achieving fast weight loss. It is not a long-term weight loss solution, but is known to be effective over the short term. Apparently it originally came from a hospital (Sacred Hearts Hospital) to stimulate weight loss for surgery patients - but this cannot be verified.

Cabbage Soup Diet The Cabbage Soup Diet is an extremely low-fat, high fibre diet that lasts seven days. By the end of the week, fans of the diet claim you'll have lost up to 10 pounds. It's only designed as a kick-start to help you lose weight quickly and is not supposed to be a long-term healthy eating plan.
As far as for the average overweight person, the Cabbage Soup Diet is totally unrealistic if one is interested in more than very short-term weight loss. It is hard to imagine eating cabbage soup for an extended period of time. How fast is that temporary weight loss going to stick? This is not a nutritionally sound plan and certainly not one to live on. If you can't live on it, there doesn't seem much point in putting yourself back on the rollercoaster of weight loss frustration and heartache.
The Cabbage Soup Diet does result in weight loss. However, it lacks many of the nutritional necessities that many other diets take into account. Because of these deficiencies, it is not recommended to stay on the diet for more than the recommended period.
The Cabbage Soup Diet has been revamped over the years. It no longer consists of simply eating only cabbage soup all day. It is now similar to the Seven Day Diet, but you can eat unlimited cabbage soup at any point in the day. No bread, alcohol, or carbonated beverages are allowed on this plan, not even diet soda. This diet promises weight loss of up to 10 pounds in one week.
