The "Cabbage Soup Diet" is based on a fat-burning soup that contains negligible calories. The regimen relies on strange food combinations that force you to nearly starve yourself each day. Dieters are allowed all the water and "cabbage soup" they want, plus a very restricted set of other foods.

On the fourth day, only bananas can be eaten and skim milk and water can be drunk, besides the cabbage soup. On that day, the dieter may consume eight bananas or less. The banana and skim milk idea is to keep the dieter from craving sweet things. The dieter can finally eat something different on the diet’s fifth day. During this day, beef, chicken or fish is allowed, as long as it isn’t larger than 20 ounces, and six or fewer tomatoes are approved. To keep the body from building up too much uric acid, the dieter must drink six or more glasses of water and eat one or more bowls of soup.

Unlike other diet programs, there are no restrictions in the food that you take in as long as you drink the cabbage soup with every meal. From low calorie vegetables to potatoes and beef, you can eat anything you want. Of course, dieters under the program are encouraged to take in fruits and vegetables as well as unsweetened fruit juices.
