Burkina Faso The Government of Burkina Faso including the President and the Minister of Health considers pediatric HIV to be a top priority. There is a well-established need for pediatric care and treatment of HIV/AIDS co-morbidities in Burkina Faso, specifically malaria and TB. The Minister of Health has recommended the development of the COE in Bobo Dioulasso, which is a four hour drive southeast of the capital city of Ouagadougou. Bobo Dioulasso is believed to have a higher HIV prevalence, both adult and pediatric. The Ministry of Health (MOH) has designated a plot of land in Bobo Dioulasso, which it has allocated for the new center. The plot of land totals 20,000 square meters, of which the MOH will donate 10,000 square meters of the land for the COE and plans to build other MOH facilities on the remaining property over the next three to five years.

In May 1994 a second series of national meetings was convened to assess the relevance of the strategies then in place and make any adjustments needed to enable Burkina Faso to take full advantage of the devaluation of the CFA franc. Another objective was to portray the devaluation in a positive light and encourage the entire population to get involved. These meetings served as the inspiration for the historic speech on production presented by Burkina Faso’s President on June 2, 1994. That same speech was ... the driving force behind the Letter of Intent for Sustainable Human Development (1995-2005), which focuses on poverty alleviation and the development of human resources.
