Any unit anywhere in the Bulge or along the edge of the Bulge was in combat with German units. If they were in the forward part of the Bulge, the contact came sooner during the battle. If they were originally in the rear and western areas of the Bulge, the contact came later when what had been the rear became the front lines.

Bulge bracket described how the top firms names on tombstones bulged out from the smaller underwriters listed on them. Tombstones are the ads that appear in newspapers and magazines that announce deals. In addition to prestige, the underwriters at the top of a bond or stock offering made the most money from the deal. Before the 1970s, Morgan Stanley reinforced who was able to participate in deals because it was the dominant banker to the largest U.S. companies and didnt let other banks participate as co-managers. As the 1970s drew to a close, the status quo began to change as companies demanded that other bankers participate on their deals and the banks own syndicate networks grew and the iron-clad relationships that determined who corporations hired diminished.

Butt Bulge is nearly always accompanied by a hollow butt. Rot commonly extends above the holow, and the upper tapered-off limit of the bulge generally indicates the end of serious rot. It is found most often on lowland sites with high soil moisture content and is most frequent in oak.

On December 23, American forces began their first counterattack on the southern flank of the "Bulge." On January 1, 1945, the Germans launched two new operations in an attempt to keep the offensive going and create second fronts in Holland and northern France. The Luftwaffe (German air force) launched a major campaign against Allied airfields and succeeded in destroying or severely damaging more than 460 aircraft. The Luftwaffe ... sustained an incredible number of losses — 277 planes. While the Allies recovered quickly from their losses, the operation left the Luftwaffe weaker than ever. After 20 days of fighting, American forces fell back, having sustained more than 11,000 casualties — but inflicting 23,000.

As such, the present tunnel was probably used all throughout the "Battle of the Bulge" as initially intended. Although the bulk of the inhabitants of Wallendorf were evacuated in early September 1944 as fighting action in the area was becoming imminent with the approcah of the Americans, the tunnel ... served as a shelter for remaining civilians during the extensive shelling and fighting in and around Wallendorf during the September 1944 operations.
