Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Seasons
built 352 days ago
Buffy The Vampire Slayer began its run on The WB TV network with a truncated, 12-episode first season (Buffy began as a 1997 mid-season replacement show on The WB, replacing the cancelled sudser, Savannah). Buffy then ran five seasons on The WB. In the Fall of 2001, The WB would not pony up to FOX Television Productions' compensation demands, and UPN did, so Buffy moved to the UPN TV network at the start of the 2001-2002 season (Buffy's 6th season). The show ran two more seasons, before ending at the conclusion of its 7th season in 2003.
Buffy The Vampire Slayer Buffy The Vampire Slayer premiered on WB on March 10, 1997. The series is based on the hit movie of the same name (there is a different actress in the series). Buffy, a teenage girl, has a special ability to find and fight off vampires. The show follows her life and vampire-fighting exploits. This show is humorous and somewhat bizarre - therefore hip. The series moved to UPN beginning with its 6th season.

Buffy's friends resurrect her through a powerful spell in the sixth season. Buffy returns from Heaven and finds a job at a fast food restaurant. Her friends are unaware of her inner turmoils as they face their own troubles: Xander leaves his fiancée at the altar, and Willow becomes addicted to magic. When Willow's girlfriend is killed by a deranged murderer, Willow descends into darkness and begins a rampage that nearly causes the end of the world.
Though Buffy is one in a line of slayers, what sets her apart from all the other slayers, the isolated heroes of their times, is her friends. Dubbed the “Scooby Gang,” they are her closest friends, a fantastic foursome of Buffy (the slayer), Willow (the witch), Giles (the mentor), and Xander. On the surface, Xander seems the odd man out, capable of little more than wisecracks. But only in the seventh season is his role fully defined: he’s the heart and the vision. It is the fact that Buffy is grounded in love?love of her family and friends, that she has a community and is not as strictly isolated as previous slayers?that makes her great. Theirs is the power of presence, a power that literally proved to be the tide turner in the climactic battle in Season Four.
This week the Lounge brings you a Buffy sighting from the national magazine Entertainment Weekly (#915). The fourth season sees Buffy and Willow enroll at UC Sunnydale while Xander joins the workforce. Willow falls in love with another witch, while Buffy begins dating a student who is a member of The Initiative, a top-secret military installation based beneath the UC Sunnydale campus. They appear to be a well-meaning anti-demon operation, but a secret project goes horribly wrong. The season ... marked the first year in which Joss Whedon oversaw other TV series.
