Buffalo Sabres: Teams
built 236 days ago
The Buffalo Sabres are a professional ice hockey team located in the Buffalo, New York area and is part of the Eastern Conference, Northeast Division. The Buffalo Sabres were founded during the early 1970s. A fan contest was held to name New York’s new hockey team. The name Sabres was chosen in order to refer to a weapon carried by leaders and utilized for defense strategies.

The Buffalo Sabres were part of an NHL expansion for the 1970-71 season. By 1974-75, the team had the best record in the NHL and went to the Stanley Cup finals, where they lost to Philadelphia. This series included the famous Fog Game, played in a Buffalo heat wave that produced fog over the ice and made the game virtually invisible to the fans.
The Buffalo Sabres 2006-07 Season began with the team’s attempts to improve their results after a disappointing end of the previous season, when they participated in the Eastern Conference Finals before being defeated in seven games by Carolina. The team lost several veteran players to free agency (J.P. Dumont, Jay McKee, and Mike Grier). However, the Sabres signed only one new player to their new roster: defenseman Jaroslav Spacek. The club planned to rely on young players like Jiri Novotny, Paul Gaustad, and Nathan Paetsch.

Daniel Briere and Buffalo Sabres made the most of rare mistakes by the New Jersey Devils. Briere set up all three Buffalo goals as the Sabres took a comfortable lead and then held on in the final minute for a 3-2 victory over the Devils on Tuesday night. New Jersey, one of the NHL's top defensive teams, twice turned the puck over to Briere in the third period.
In the early part of this decade, the Buffalo Sabres were kind of a marginal team – they won enough games to get fans interested in buying Sabres hockey tickets, but not enough to make the NHL playoffs. That all changed after the NHL lockout, and the team put together the two best seasons in franchise history with 52 and 53 wins in those years. The Sabres went all the way to the Conference Finals both years, and this season they will be looking to play for the Stanley Cup. The team’s new ownership group has not been shy about spending money to bring Buffalo a championship team, and as a result Sabres hockey tickets are hotter than ever.
