Budweiser: Budweiser Shootout
built 656 days ago
It was announced on 8-8 that Budweiser will be the official beer of NASCAR starting in 1998. As rumored here the Busch Clash will become the Bud Shootout. Instead of having a wild card draw like the Clash did, there will be a 25 lap race (under the green flag) before the Bud Shootout pitting the previous season's fastest second round qualifiers with the winner going to the Shootout. The Busch Pole Award will now become the Bud Pole Award(NASCAR Online)(8-7-97)

Budweiser Shootout Tickets The Budweiser Shootout is an annual NASCAR Nextel Cup Series event held at Daytona International Speedway in February, the week before the Daytona 500. It began as the Busch Clash and was a fifty-mile "shootout". In its current format, it is made up of 2 segments: First a short 20-lap segment, followed by a 10 minute intermission. After the intermission, the race concludes with a 50-lap segment in which each car must make a green flag pit stop.
The Budweiser Shootout, just like the Nextel All-Star Challenge race, which takes place at Lowe's Motor Speedway in May, brings no points to the champion... a substantial money prize. This fact usually results in an all-out racing style not typical for regular races, in which one blunder can seriously spoil the whole season. Nevertheless, because the fields are smaller, serious accidents, which are usually seen at the Daytona 500 race, rarely occur. The smaller field gives a chance to take part to the pole winners from the previous season and the former race champions. The starting lineup is decided during a random draw, unlike most other races, in which records are important.

The Budweiser Shootout starting line-up is determined by a random drawing which takes place Thursday evening, February 8. The drivers choose their starting position in the following order, based upon: number of Bud Pole Awards during the 2006 season (ties broken by next-best qualifying effort), then; past winners of the Budweiser Shootout without a Bud Pole in 2006. Past winners draw in order of their points position from the 2006 season.
