Bryan Singer will direct a remake of Logan's Run for Warner Bros. and producer Joel Silver. The sci-fi action film about a man trying to escape a mandatory death sentence on his 21st birthday is being fast-tracked to start production this year. Singer will do "Run" before going back to the "X-Men" franchise.

x-men director bryan singer Bryan Singer is busily trying to mix the final two reels of X-Men 2 but is boyishly enthused about his eagerly anticipated sequel to the hugely successful X-Men. "It's a great roller coaster ride," he says.
Rather than adapting an existing storyline, Singer chose to write a draft of an original story. Singer didn't want to do an origin movie, as he considers Superman to be a classic (as he had seen the film many times while filming X-Men), so he decided to do a return storyline. With his previous writers from X2, Dan Harris and Michael Dougherty, Singer created a script that was a semi-sequel to the original film with very little ties to Superman II and completely disregarding the events of Superman III and Superman IV: The Quest for Peace. His first draft included the character of General Zod, whom he wanted to be played by Jude Law, his first and only choice for the role. When Law turned down the part three times, Singer eliminated the character from the script. The most difficult challenge, he admits, was finding the obstacle that would be impossible for Superman to overcome: the passage of time and change.
X2 director bryan singer Talking from his Fox production office, a week shy of the film's first major press screenings, Singer no doubt as to why the original movie struck such a chord with audiences. "I think it touches on a universal theme which is acceptance. Even though it has elements which are fun, romantic and dazzling, and a science fiction fantasy, in a way, it is ultimately the characters that stay with people. They have a history, they relate to one another in a way that a large audience can relate to." In the sequel, the X-Men band together to find a mutant assassin who has made an attempt on the President's life, while the Xavier's School for Gifted Students is attacked by military forces.
Hugh Jackman, who portrays Van Helsing, starred as the dual character 'Wolverine/Logan' in Bryan Singer's hit comic book adaptation "X-Men" in 2000. In 2001, he played convicted hacker 'Stanley Jobson' opposite John Travolta in "Swordfish." Jackman ... starred as a romantic leading man that year, opposite Meg Ryan in "Kate & Leopold," and received a Golden Globe nomination for best actor in a musical or comedy for the performance. Jackman was nominated for the Olivier Award for his portrayal of Curly in the Royal National Theatre's London production of "Oklahoma!" He previously worked in film and television in his native Australia and was nominated by the Australian Film Institute for its Best Actor award. He was named one of "The 50 Most Beautiful People in the World" by People magazine in 2000, 2001 and 2002.

Due to delays caused by the September 11, 2001 bombings in America, Singer was forced to leave his work on the project to direct X2: X-Men United. With the loss of Singer, Fox Networks pulled out of their deal with Studio USA (choosing to invest their interests in another project for a series called Firefly), and the continuation was ultimately abandoned.
