The production has set up shop on the Burbank lot, taking over the offices that were home to Bryan Singer's now defunct "Logan's Run" remake. The move comes two years after the film was first proposed by actor Vince Vaughn who confirmed last month he still remains committed to the project.

Remember, Bryan Singer's The Mayor of Castro Street project (based on Randy Shilts' book) is still up in the air as well. Still no word on any development or casting news on that one.

In 1998, Singer directed Apt Pupil, from a screenplay written by Brandon Boyce, another of his friends. The story, adapted from a Stephen King novella of the same name (collected in the book Different Seasons), tells of a young boy who develops a morbid fascination with a Nazi war criminal. An experience from Singer's childhood, where he and his friends briefly formed a "Nazi Club", is often cited as attracting him to this project (Singer said this club was born not out of anti-Semitism but rather due to the kids' fascination with World War II).

Singer was finally able to find financing at WMG, a German based company of international business investors that offered him a budget of six and a half million dollars. Kevin Spacey, a relatively unknown actor who had approached Singer after attending a DGA screening of Public Access, was already attached to the project. (McQuarrie had thought of him in the part of Verbal as the script evolved.) Gabriel Byrnes involvement came through George Freeman, his agent at ICM, who had ... seen Public Access but was unable to get enough support from colleagues to hire Singer as a client.
