Brunei is one of four participants in the Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines – East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA). The objective of BIMP-EAGA is to secure enhanced growth and development in this sub-region of ASEAN.

Brunei is located north-west corner of the island of Borneo. It has a land border with the Malaysian state of Sarawak and a coastline along the shore of the South China Sea, encompassing a total area of 5,765 square kilometres.

Brunei claims territory in Sarawak, such as Limbang, and it is one of many nations to lay claim to the disputed Spratly Islands. Several small islands situated between Brunei and Labuan, including Kuraman island, are contested between Brunei and Malaysia. However, they are internationally recognised as part of the latter.
Brunei consists of two lobes of territory, a larger western one and a smaller eastern one. Each part has a seafront but is otherwise enclosed by the Malaysian state of Sarawak. The total area of Brunei is 5,765 sq km (2,226 sq mi).
