Brunei Darussalam is an interesting place for a two, three or four night stopover, either while travelling between Sabah and Sarawak, or as an entry point to Borneo. The airport at Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital of the country, is close to the city. The Sultan of Brunei could be considered the country's best known attraction. His monuments form the major part of the existing attractions for the tourist. After a visit to Brunei, you will be left wondering whether there is any marble left in Italy!

In a word, Brunei is all jungle, so it's hot and humid throughout the year. A rainy season (of sorts) extends from September to January, but there is plentiful rainfall throughout the year. A flat coastal plain rises to mountains in east, the highest point being Bukit Pagon at 1,850 meters, with some hilly lowlands in west.

Brunei has a defense agreement with the United Kingdom, under which a British Armed Forces Ghurka battalion (1,500 men) is permanently stationed in Seria, near the center of Brunei's oil industry. The RBAF has joint exercises, training programs, and other military cooperation with the United Kingdom and many other countries, including the United States. The U.S. and Brunei signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on defense cooperation in November 1994. The two countries conduct an annual military exercise called CARAT.

The media in Brunei consists of tabloids, newspapers, television and radio. If they don't provide television, they will turn to the Borneo Bulletin which houses the most crackpot writers in the world, mainly Ignatius Stephen. His ways of writings can shame even your writing! The newspaper ... consist of an opinion section where Bruneians are given the freedom to write in and Bitch around. Unfortunately the letters make no grammatical sense whatsoever which results in them becoming completely ignored as no one can understand them, one of the better known writers is Seymour Jugs. The people of Brunei thinks he just might be the next Agatha Christie; critics say he is unbearable compared to J.K.

"According to the weekly 'l'Espresso', the Sultan of Brunei wants to invest 900 million for a theme park to be built in Rome. The weekly reports that the Rome Mayor Walter Veltroni and the Lazio Region's president Storace were incredulous when they saw the project that could boost employment in the capital. The theme park should be called Agata (like a town where Sumers lived happily in old times) and should be five times bigger that Paris's Euro Disney. It will be built in a five-hectare space between Casilina road and Prenestina road." From AGI.

Brunei is widely known for being the last country in the world without any restaurant. Less known is the fact that the first person to reach the Moon was in fact a Bruneian monk, who after 500 years of non-stop meditation acquired the skill of levitation. However that monk died when he realized his meditation wasn't enough for him to acquire the ability to breath in space.
