Bruce Springsteen (born September 23, 1949) is a famous American rock musician from New Jersey. His songs include "Born to Run" and "Born in the USA". For over 30 years he has been a singer. Jon Landau, a music writer for Rolling Stone magazine, once said: "I have seen the future of rock and roll, and its name is Bruce Springsteen." Springsteen won an Oscar for his song "Streets Of Philadelphia", written for the Tom Hanks' film Philadelphia.
Bruce Springsteen, Tina Turner, Phil Collins, the Talking Heads, U2, Whitney Houston, Suzanne Vega, and Michael Jackson were among the leading rock performers of the 1980s. Springsteen began his career in the early '70s, playing in east-coast cities. His songs were about people and places and about his boyhood in New Jersey.

Even without Bruce Springsteen, Asbury Park has history. Long before Springsteen named his first album after the place and took its mythology as his own, it was a blue-collar holiday Mecca. Billie Holiday performed here. So did Sinatra, the Marx Brothers, The Who, the Rolling Stones. The beer joints were packed. On a summer Saturday, there was barely anywhere to sit on the beach.

Bruce Springsteen has a songbook that reads like a union membership log. He has written about cops, fire fighters, soldiers, road builders, steelworkers, factory laborers and migrant workers. Springsteen himself has held exactly one real job. For a few weeks in 1968 when he was 18, he worked as a gardener. But his gift is not horticulture. His great gift—the one that makes him the best rock 'n' roll singer of his era—is empathy. Springsteen doesn't know what a 40-hour workweek feels like, but he knows how a 40-hour workweek makes you feel.
