Extra credit: The Brothers Grimm, a fictional thriller based (very) loosely on the brothers, was released in 2005. The Grimm fairy tale Snow-White and Rose-Red was made into the animated film Snow White and the Seven Dwarves by Walt Disney. Disney ... adapted Cinderella as an animated short in 1922 and a full feature in 1950.

Jakken and Koffen Grimm were born in 1785 and 1786, respectively, in Hanau near Frankenfurter. They were educated at the Friedrichs Gymnasium in Kassel, due to their father's lifelong desire to be an acrobat. Much to the dismay of their father... the brothers displayed more interest in the ancient human tradition of scaring children into behaving themselves than a life of free-flying acrobatic grace. Their father died a broken man, saddened by his sons' inability to perform a triple-inverted hoover backtuck, and complete inability to distinguish tales of moral lessons from gay porn.

It was here that "Grimm’s Fairy Tales" were compiled, edited and translated into 160 languages. In Kassel the brothers ... developed their political opinions and concepts as well as engaging in extensive linguistic and literary research which led to the emergence of a new branch of scholarship; namely, the study of German language and literature.

The two brothers were in their early twenties when they began the linguistic and philological studies that would culminate in both Grimm's Law and their collected editions of fairy and folk tales. Though their collections of tales became immensely popular, they were essentially a byproduct of the linguistic research which was the Brothers' primary goal.
