Picture of children's broom PRODUCT: Children's Toy Brooms - EMSCO Inc., of Girard, Pa., is voluntarily recalling about 2,200 children's toy brooms. The Ti-dee Helper brooms are about 37 inches long with a wood handle painted yellow and natural straw bristles. A silver label on the handle reads, "MADE IN MEXICO." The plastic packaging that covered the broom bristles reads, "Ti-dee Helper™ child's broom," and contains the model number "6089." Toy, discount and grocery stores sold these brooms from April 2000 through February 2001 for about $9.

The Firebolt, by Mary GrandPré Brooms, even those owned by students, are normally stored in a broomshed by the Quidditch pitch (PS13), although when Harry gets a Firebolt he keeps it in his dormitory out of concern for its safety (PA15). This is probably smart, as the broomshed can get quite cold - Hagrid is seen outside on one cold fall morning defrosting the brooms from the shed (PS11). Hogwarts owns a number of brooms, but they are old and don't fly especially well; Harry dreads the thought of playing a Quidditch match on one after his broom is destroyed (PA10). These brooms are used primarily for flying lessons, which first years take with Madame Hooch (PS9), though most of them can't fly very well (HBP11).

Brooms have been used for centuries to sweep caves, cabins and castles. Before 1797, brooms in America were home and hand-made. Tree branches and brush were often used to sweep the floor and clean the ashes from the fireplaces. Sometimes a crude brooms were fashioned by tying something on a stick or handle: straw, hay, fine twigs or corn husks. These crude brooms did not sweep well and fell apart after a short time, even though strong linen twine was often used.

broom Brooms have long been connected with witchcraft, almost universally portrayed as medieval-style round brooms and associated with female witches. Despite the association with women, in 1453, the first known case of claiming to have flown on a broomstick is recorded, confessed by the male witch Guillaume Edelin.[1] There are... prior records of witches flying on sticks or similar objects, usually that had been first greased with a magical flying ointment.
His broom collection consisted of 18 brooms, showing traditional broom making techniques, from various parts of the world. These original brooms were from places such as Moldova, Ethiopia, China, Sudan, Malawi, Russia and St. Lucia. The idea was that Laurent would, over the coming years, continue to expand the collection from other parts of the world. In 2004, Laurent sent an additional seven brooms to the Museum, making a total of 25 brooms within his collection. This exhibit includes photographs and short descriptions of the brooms already deposited at the Museum. For more information about Laurent Jean Pierre and his work you may want to see his "History of the Laurent Broom Collection" or visit his website at www.geocities.com/broom_making.
Along the drive to Brooms Head and into down to the Sandon camp grounds you can often see kangaroos and wallabies grazing on the roadside. You may ... see one of the last flocks of coastal emus.
