HOV RESTRICTIONS POST-9/11: For several weeks after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center, the Brooklyn Bridge was closed to all traffic except emergency vehicles. When the bridge reopened, the New York City Department of Transportation (NYCDOT) imposed new HOV restrictions as part of larger-scale efforts to reduce congestion in Manhattan below 63rd Street. The Manhattan-bound HOV restriction applied during the morning rush until November 2003. - Brooklyn Cyclones
The Brooklyn Cyclones are a minor league baseball team in the short season single "A" New York - Penn League, affiliated with the New York Mets. The Cyclones play at KeySpan Park just off the boardwalk on Coney Island. In 2005, the Brooklyn Cyclones became the major partner of The High School of Sports Management, a new small school located down the block from KeySpan Park on West 19 Street and Mermaid Ave. - Brooklyn Bridge -- Brooklyn Bridge Park
The Brooklyn Bridge was the tallest structure in North America when it opened in 1883. While it no longer holds that title, the span has lost none of its grandeur. A stroll on its pedestrian walkway across this American icon offers breathtaking views of Manhattan from Wall Street to the Upper East Side. Stop between the two towers to read the plaques describing the innovative — and dangerous — way in which the bridge was built. To walk across the Brooklyn Bridge from Manhattan, start at Centre Street, close to City Hall, and stay on the south side of the walkway. Once in Brooklyn, veer right across the South Park's Cadman Plaza green space, walk to the end of Cranberry Street and onto the Brooklyn Heights promenade. - Brooklyn Cyclones -- New York
The home of the Brooklyn Cyclones honors Brooklyn's baseball past by displaying the retired numbers of Jackie Robinson and Gil Hodges. There's a statue out front of Pee Wee Reese famously putting his arm around Robinson during the latter's historic rookie season. The Brooklyn Dodger and New York Mets logos share a spot on the side on the aisle seats of every row. - Brooklyn Bridge -- Suspension Bridge
When it was completed in May 1883, the Brooklyn Bridge was the largest suspension bridge in the world. It is considered one of the greatest architectural accomplishments of the nineteenth century, and is, in fact, a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark. - Brooklyn Cyclones -- Keyspan Park
On Monday July 18th, in Keyspan Park, home of the Brooklyn Cyclones, Ambassador Yellow Pages Day will become a reality. The Brooklyn Cyclones are evolving as one of the most successful teams in minor league baseball. Ambassador is a strong supporter of the Brooklyn community, as well as a company that loves America's past time. - Brooklyn Bridge -- Lower Manhattan
THE FINISHING TOUCHES: At the beginning of 1883, with the Brooklyn Bridge nearing completion, two final details had to be worked out before it opened. First, two terminal buildings, complete with ornate ironwork and plate-glass windows, were to be constructed at the Manhattan and Brooklyn ends of the bridge. Second, seventy blue-white, electric arc lamps were to be installed along the promenade at intervals of about one hundred feet. Roebling gave these last details his full attention. - Brooklyn Bridge -- John Roebling
The Brooklyn Bridge's 486-meter main span was the longest in the world until the completion of the Firth of Forth cantilever bridge in Scotland in 1890. Its deck, supported by four cables, carries both automobile and pedestrian traffic. A distinctive feature is the broad promenade above the roadway, which John Roebling accurately predicted "in a crowded commercial city will be of incalculable value." - Dodgers -- Brooklyn Dodgers
Home of the Brooklyn Dodgers for more than four decades, Ebbets Field was one of the most nostalgic stadiums ever built. Prior to moving into Ebbets Field the Brooklyn Dodgers played at Washington Park, that was very small with wooden grandstands. When Charles Ebbets bought the team in the early 1900s he wanted a steel and concrete ballpark for the Dodgers. However, Ebbets had very little money and needed to find an inexpensive piece of land to construct the stadium. Ebbets found a location to build a ballpark in the slums of Brooklyn. However there was a problem as over 40 people owned the parcels of land that he needed to buy. Therefore in 1905, Ebbets began purchasing land. - Jennifer Connelly -- Brooklyn Heights
Jennifer Connelly was born December 12th 1970, at Catskill Mountains, New York. The daughter of Gerard, a clothing retailer, and Eileen Connelly, an antiques dealer, she spent four years in Woodstock, New York, but grew up in Brooklyn Heights, just across the Brooklyn Bridge from Manhattan. She attended Saint Ann school in Brooklyn Heights, and when she was ten, family friends suggested to her parents that they should take her to a modelling audition.
