We’re hearing that BRITNEY SPEARS will be flying down to the Caribbean to enter Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Centre in Antigua in an attempt to clean up her act and get her kids back. “Britney’s team has been working closely with her attorneys to figure out a way to get the babies back from Kevin,” the friend tells OK! Magazine, “She’s surrendering herself to rehab for treatment of depression and alcohol so that there’s no questioning if she is drinking or missing any future tests. She’s got to pull her life together or else she’ll lose the kids for good. She will do whatever her legal team and those closest to her thinks is best if it means she gets Preston and Jayden back. She’s getting the help she needs and everyone is hoping she goes through with it this time.”

If Britney-watchers thought that things could not get worse for the former pop princess, they were wrong. Only weeks after the VMA disaster, a judge ordered Spears to surrender custody of her two children to her ex-husband, ruling that Federline would take custody of Sean Preston and Jayden James only two days after said ruling “until further order of the court.†The order stemmed from an unspecified oral motion made by Federline’s attorneys and was handled in a closed-door hearing. The judge’s order did not state the reason for the change in custody and all transcripts of the proceedings were ordered sealed. However, that did not prevent many in even the mainstream "respectable" media from taking a stab at what moved the process from court-ordered parenting classes and drug/alcohol testing to losing physical custody only days after the previous rulings that still allowed for 50/50 custody. Some suggested it was because she had recently been photographed driving with the children in the backseat, sans a valid California driver's license; others guessed it might be a failed drug/alcohol test. Whatever the reasons, the ruling surprised many with its abruptness.

[H]ere’s the rest of the story — when Britney rang at Kevin’s, he was in fact inside the house with the babies. He left thirty minutes later and headed to the couple’s former love nest in Malibu’s Serra Retreat where Britney was waiting. Apparently she calmed herself down enough and perhaps made a deal with Kevin regarding Sean and Jayden because late last night, Britney went back to Promises rehab center. And then Kevin’s emergency hearing today was cancelled.

Instead, Britney spent most of Oct. 6 at home with her sons and a court-appointed monitor before returning the boys to Federline's bodyguard around 4 p.m. She had another supervised visit with Preston and Jayden Oct. 9. The visitations "are going perfectly," says Britney's lawyer Sorrell Trope, who adds that Britney has submitted to more than one random drug test, which "have come up negative." In February of 2006, photographers snapped photos of Britney driving her car with baby Sean Preston resting in her lap. The big question was "what was she thinking?" as she endangered the safety of her child. LA Deputies were dispatched to her home but no charges were filed.
