"Britney was the overwhelming choice," said editor Hilary O'Hagan. "She once had three Chihuahuas (Lacy, Lucky and Bit-Bit) and never left home without at least one of them on her arm. As soon as she met K-Fed and had kids they disappeared." One of the dogs, Lucky, reportedly took an instant dislike to K-Fed. "It was either Mr. Federline or Lucky," added Ms. O'Hagan. "Unfortunately Britney chose the wrong dog and the rest is history."

Britney Spears will be in hospital for up to 14 days 'involuntary' hold, according to reports, with the potential to hold her for longer if a court order is gained. Britney can contest the hold in court, in which case, court-appointed psychiatrists will investigate; ... due to the conservatorship being placed, it seems unlikely she would win any such case. If she makes huge improvements, her doctors may deem her well enough for outpatient treatment, or may give her the opportunity to voluntarily stay hospitalised for longer. According to the bill of rights for patients at the Stewart and Lynda Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA, where she is staying, she is allowed to use pay phones, see visitors, wear her own clothes, and kepe her own personal possessions with her, with doctors monitoring all of the patients at least once an hour, even during the night. Britney's parents, Jamie and Lynne Spears, have been to see her repeatedly, as well as visiting Sean Preston and Jayden James, who are staying with Kevin Federline.

If Britney-watchers thought that things could not get worse for the former pop princess, they were wrong. Only weeks after the VMA disaster, a judge ordered Spears to surrender custody of her two children to her ex-husband, ruling that Federline would take custody of Sean Preston and Jayden James only two days after said ruling “until further order of the court.†The order stemmed from an unspecified oral motion made by Federline’s attorneys and was handled in a closed-door hearing. The judge’s order did not state the reason for the change in custody and all transcripts of the proceedings were ordered sealed. However, that did not prevent many in even the mainstream "respectable" media from taking a stab at what moved the process from court-ordered parenting classes and drug/alcohol testing to losing physical custody only days after the previous rulings that still allowed for 50/50 custody. Some suggested it was because she had recently been photographed driving with the children in the backseat, sans a valid California driver's license; others guessed it might be a failed drug/alcohol test. Whatever the reasons, the ruling surprised many with its abruptness.
