Formation of the new Wyler - Gaughan Race team has been announced for '08; they plan to run at least six Cup races in '08 with Brendan Gaughan as driver. Hearing that the Wyler/Gaughan merger has fallen through. Brendan Gaughan told Sirius NASCAR Radio's Sirius Speedway Wednesday that the announced merger with Wyler Racing is off, and that his family's South Point Racing team will disband.

Despite his dominance, Gaughan could not hold off three other drivers, who had closed up on his championship lead going into the final race at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Gaughan started the race as the points leader, with Ted Musgrave (#1 Ultra Motorsports Mopar Dodge) in second, Travis Kvapil (#16 IWX Motor Freight Chevrolet) in third, and Dennis Setzer (#46 Acxiom Chevrolet) in fourth. All Gaughan needed to do was finish ahead of all three drivers to win the championship.
Gaughan replaces David Starr, who returned to Red Horse racing. Gaughan was without a ride after a merger between his South Point Racing team and Wyler Racing fell through. Bryan Berry moves from South Point to Circle Bar and will serve as Gaughan's crew chief. Gaughan will race as a teammate to Rick Crawford.(SceneDaily.com)
