The Amica Insurance Breakers Marathon is Rhode Island's premier marathon! However, its appeal extends far beyond the Ocean State, attracting runners from across the country, as well as inetrantional athletes. Now in its fifth year, this marathon has quickly grown to become a favorite among local runners and visitors alike. With strong community support, first-class race organization, and a beautiful course, the Breakers Marathon continues to grow in popularity.

The So Cal Breakers 18U Gold team under Brant Beddow is highly respected, well coached, has community support and has positive parent participation. This team is highly visible throughout Southern California, playing most weekends against the top teams and in the most competitive tournaments throughout the year. The gold team ... participates in the ASA-USA Junior Olympic Gold Softball Championship.

Set amidst the scenic beauty of Rhode Island's coastline, the 2008 Amica Insurance Breakers Marathon is a well-organized event designed to suit all ability levels and capture the spirit of New England running. The mission of the 2008 Amica Insurance Breakers Marathon race weekend is to bring a world-class marathon race event back to the great state of Rhode Island, and in the process give back to the community by raising money for the Providence Ronald McDonald House.

The ASA-USA Junior Olympic Girls Fast pitch So Cal Breakers organization consists of two teams, a Girls 18U Gold team and a Girls 16U team. The So Cal Breakers 18U Gold team was established in 2001 and has become one of the top level teams in the Country. The So Cal Breakers 16U team was established in 2005 and has already become one of the elite teams in San Diego County.

The 2008 Amica Insurance Breakers Marathon will take place on Saturday, October 18, and covers a rolling loop course on the rural roads of Newport/Rhode Island. Starting at the Newport Yachting Center on America’s Cup Boulevard, the course runs through some of the most scenic spots on Aquidneck Island, including along historic Thames Street in downtown Newport, around Fort Adams State Park, past Hammersmith Farms and the Newport Country Club, around scenic Brenton Point and Ocean Drive, past the famous Bellevue Mansions, by beautiful ocean views along Surfers Beach and Second Beach, through the Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge, along the Norman Bird Sanctuary, through the quiet back country roads of Indian Avenue, past majestic Saint Georges Academy, and finishing at Easton’s Beach.
