Brandon is an unincorporated census-designated place in Hillsborough County, Florida, in the United States. As of the 2000 census, the community had a total population of 77,895. According to the American Fact Sheet, the community has a population in 2005 of 89,929, which is an increase of 15.4% or 12,034 people. [1]

Brandon is the County Seat of Rankin County. It has been said that Brandon has furnished the state with more governors, senators, congressmen, judges, district attorneys, physicians, and teachers than any other town of its size in the state.

Brandon has a little sister now. His sister, Ava Camille Williams was born today at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Pontiac. He was able to visit the hospital and was fascinated by the 'baby'.

John Brandon remarried a widow named Victoria and moved back to New Hope in 1874. John bought 160 acres and named his land Brandon. John and Victoria's house was located on what would become the corner of Knights and Victoria Street. Four years later, the New Hope Church was built on land donated by John. Besides being the first church in the community, it ... served as Brandon's first school.

Named for founder and landowner John Brandon, the community originated in the late-nineteenth century and has since grown in spurts; at first sporadically until around 1950, when a real growth period began. By the early 1960s, Brandon's population was around 8,000 and it was estimated that on average a new family moved into town every day. By the late 1980s, the population had climbed to around 100,000 with over 2,500 businesses having sprung forward. Although still unincorporated, Brandon has grown by leaps and bounds and today could well be considered a major urban area, with an ongoing influx of new public schools, corporate centers and industries.

The first Brandon census was taken in 1922 when the population was 100. In 1925, Hopewell Road became a 9-foot wide, paved road and residents such as Clarence Hampton began building business along it in 1927. Clarence opened the first gas and service station.
