built 613 days ago
Whitt won the Rookie of the Year title in NASCAR's Southwest Touring division in 2002, and made his Craftsman Truck Series debut in 2003, driving the #38 Chevrolet Silverado for Clean Line Motorsports, a team his father owned. He finished thirteenth in his debut, and ran six additional races that season, his best finish a thirteenth at California Speedway. In 2004, Whitt and his team ran the Truck Series full-time with sponsorship from McMillin Homes and running Ford F-150s. Despite not finishing any higher than 12th in his rookie season, Whitt finished 19th in the final standings.

Whitt learned all about sponsors this season as he launched a career on NASCAR's Craftsman Trucks circuit. When the season began, his main sponsors were his parents. Instead of trying to sell a product, Whitt was promoting a cause. The hood carried the plea, "Cure Autism Now."

Whitt will drive in place of Jason Leffler because of a scheduling conflict with Leffler's Busch Series commitment. Whitt drove for Red Horse Racing in 2005. He won his first career truck series race that season at Martinsville Speedway.(SceneDaily.com)

Whitt went into his rookie season hoping to finish in the top 10 of every race and in the final points standings and contend for the Rookie of the Year title. He'll fall short on all three counts.
