Brad Paisley is a country music star who started his music career as a song writer. He made his first appearance on stage as an opening act for Ricky Skaggs and George Jones. Not soon to retire from the music scene, Brad Paisley released several albums and quickly rose to fame with hit singles, including duets with Dolly Parton and Alan Jackson.

The first single off Brad Paisley's sixth album, 5th Gear,"Ticks" is a strange choice. It's not a bad song by any means, but "All I Wanted Was A Car" is way more catchy and boasts a funny narrative about a teenage gearhead with low aspirations, and the guitar solo lets loose some of Paisley's best Telecaster pickin' ever. "Oh Love" ... would have made for a much better single. It's a totally romantic duet with Carrie Underwood that could provide a perfect soundtrack to making out on a southern front porch swing.

At the conclusion of the announcements, Brad Paisley and Country Music Hall of Fame member George Strait lead the list of nominees with five nominations each. Paisley was nominated for Entertainer, Male Vocalist, Album for 5th Gear (produced by Frank Rogers and Chris DuBois), Single for "Ticks," and Music Video of the Year for "Online," which was directed by actor-turned- video director Jason Alexander.
