Majesco, and Digital Fiction, has released Boxing Fever for the Game Boy Advance, and the action is placed squarely in your lap. This game offers a first-player perspective that is wonderful. You see the fight from behind your gloves. As the bell rings, the ring seems to turn around in front of you and your opponent appears. They just aren’t standing there to get hit; they are actually firing shots at you. If you are tagged the world is likely to wobble.

Boxing Fever's innovative gameplay combines skill and strategy-based boxing, and uses full-screen character animation technology optimized for the GBA's small screen. Boxing from a first-person perspective, players hit the gym and begin their training using a special robot trainer. Once players hone their skills, they can move on to compete in five separate boxing championships. Utilizing the Game Boy Advance link cable, two players can compete against each other through five difficulty levels in multiplayer mode.

Boxing fever has once again taken root amongst Stockton residents. The most recent boxing event held at the Civic Auditorium proves that the town known as "Fat City" has not forgotten its rich history. The event promoted by George Chung was called "Return to Fat City"; George is famous in Central Valley boxing circles. Like all promoters, George is likes money, oh he may like boxing, but he certainly isn¹t going to be overly generous when he pays the boxers. Match Maker Jeff Ruf, made the matches. The objective of any promoter is to cover his expenses, put on a good show and make some money. That's the reality of any business.

Boxing Fever's controls are set up in a very easy to use manner. A & B control your left and right punches, while pressing up or down will control whether they are high or low. The shoulder buttons allow you to shift out of the way. It's very intuitive and fits the frantic paces of the matches wonderfully. Once you are down, rapidly pressing B will get your man up, unless his stamina bar is red.

Boxing Fever features simply stunning visuals, with largest characters in a portable game up to this point. The realistic backgrounds and great animation round out the package. ~ Skyler Miller, All Game Guide

Boxing Fever is an excellent boxing title with a great new perspective on the video game version of the sport. The only thing that keeps this game from being perfect is a somewhat basic single player mode. Don't let this turn you off though, the game has a lot of character, looks better than most GBA titles and is a riot to play.
