Traditionally, Boxing Day is the day when families get together. It is a day of watching sports and playing board games with the family. Many families will go on walks in the countryside together on this day.

It was traditionally a day to give a box to those who have worked hard for you throughout the year. Many churches or businesses placed boxes for coins to be placed for year end gifts. Many countries now have Boxing Week to sell excess Christmas inventory at reduced prices.

In England less emphasis is placed on Christmas Eve than in other countries, much more is made of Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Carol singing, midnight church services and going out to the pub are some of the activities that many families enjoy (sometimes all three activities can be combined into one fun night out!).
