Boxing is a sport in which two fighters battle with their fists. The boxers wear heavily padded gloves and fight in a square, roped-off area called a [R]ing. A good bout between two well-matched fighters is a fast, violent display of strength and skill. The boxers throw powerful punches as each tries to dominate his opponent. At the same time, each boxer must guard his head and body against the other's punches by dodging or blocking the blows. There are several ways to win a fight.
Depicted on the walls of tombs at Beni Hasan in Egypt, dating from about 2000 to 1500 B.C., boxing is one of the oldest forms of competition. A part of the ancient Olympic games, the sport was exhausting and brutal. The Greeks fought without regard for weight differentials and without interruption, a match ending only when a fighter lost consciousness or raised his hand in resignation. Boxers wound heavy strips of leather around their hands and wrists. Under Roman rule, these thongs (the caestus) were laced with metal, ensuring an abundance of blood. Statues of maimed boxers from late antiquity attest to the carnage.

Since boxing involves forceful, repetitive punching, precautions must be taken to prevent damage to bones in the hand. Most trainers do not allow boxers to train and spar without hand/wrist wraps and gloves. Handwraps are used to secure the bones in the hand, and the gloves are used to protect the hands from blunt injury, allowing boxers to throw punches with more force than if they did not utilize them. Gloves have been required in competition since the late nineteenth century, though modern boxing gloves are much heavier than those worn by early twentieth-century fighters. Prior to a bout, both boxers agree upon the weight of gloves to be used in the bout, with the understanding that lighter gloves allow heavy punchers to inflict more damage. The brand of gloves can ... affect the impact of punches, so this too is usually stipulated before a bout.

The first appearance of The King in a video game was in the boxing game Fight Night Round 3 from EA Sports which was released on all-formats, starting with the Xbox 360 release in February 2006. The King was available as the in-ring round guy, and later he was selectable as your boxing manager (his speciality was giving you "Heart"). There were ... persistent rumors that he could be played as a boxer using a cheat code. However, some fans of the game regard his cameo as an example of excessive product placement.[6]
The producers of Retador Azteca Presented by Budweiser searched near and far for the best undiscovered boxing talent in Mexico City and across the U.S., including Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, Miami and San Juan (Puerto Rico). Separated from their families for eighteen weeks, the boxers live in “reality houses,” with the Mexican team in Puebla and the Americans in Las Vegas. The show takes an inside look at each contender’s personal story and what motivates him to fight for victory-- overcoming a life of poverty, a promise to a deceased parent, a better education for his children.
