Boxing: Bouts
built 201 days ago
Figg's boxing rules were still brutal.... For example, one rule required that boxers continue to fight without rest periods until one man could not go on. In 1743, Jack Broughton, a well-known British boxer, introduced new rules. Under Broughton's rules, a fight ended when one man was knocked down and could not get up within 30 seconds. However, bouts were still continuous. Broughton's rules, with some additions, became standard for all bouts. They were known as the London Prize Ring Rules, and they helped make boxing less savage.
In the final bout airing Sunday, May 18, 2008, the finalist from each country will face-off, glove-to-glove at the world-famous Caesars Palace to battle for the grand prize of $50,000 and a leg-up in the fiercely competitive boxing industry. The second place will win a prize of $10,000.
The fact that the bouts were not broadcast "live" might be considered a drawback in attracting viewers, since the majority of potential customers, fans of Women's boxing, already know the results. This is overcome, to a large degree, by the opportunity, for those same fans, to watch each of these three ten round bouts in their entirety.
