History: The Boxers origins stem from as far back as the sixteenth century in Europe. His ancestors are thought to involve mastiff-type dogs called Bullenbeissers (translating to "bull-biter"), English Bulldogs, Great Danes, Boston Terriers, French Bulldogs, and some type of terrier. The general consensus of the Boxers' genetic makeup is that around the 1830s, German hunters created the Boxer from mating a small Bullenbeisser (mastiff-type breed) female to a native, possibly Bavarian, male dog, by which the two produced a female who was then mated to an English Bulldog. Boxers were first used as hunters to the Germans and Nederland residents to hunt boar and deer. Later in Germany, the breed was used in bull baiting and the popular sport of dog fighting. When dog fighting was banned in Germany in the mid-nineteenth century, the Boxer was then put to use as a guard and for controlling cattle at slaughterhouses.

Boxers need special care that other breeds do not. A Chihuahua for example would need a lot less exercise than a boxer would. But the differences between Boxers and other kinds of breeds don’t not end there. You can not go out and buy the first dog your daughter falls in love with without doing some research beforehand. The fact that you are reading this is a good start, as it shows you have an interest in getting a dog that is right for you and your family. For the past 3 months Boxers and Buddies has been raising money for Swirl's knee surgery. Holding countless fundraisers and events for this little guy. As of December 18th,2007, Boxers and Buddies has raised enough money for the surgery ($1100). Finally, this little guy was good to go for his operation to make his limp subside. Then, the bad news came. Swirl's right ACL as well as his left, is ... torn.

Boxers are often fawn colored, ranging from light tan to deep mahogany, or brindle, and sometimes have white markings. They generally weigh 55-75 lbs, and stand about 21-25" tall. Of course, there are thousands of wonderful Boxer mixes available for adoption, and they come in all kinds of beautiful colors and sizes!
