Botswana: Chobe River
built 621 days ago
Once in Botswana you are close to the Victoria Falls. Whether you want to visit the Victoria Falls from Zambia or Zimbabwe, you are less than 200 km away whilst in Chobe.
Botswana's successful conservation of elephants has resulted in their numbers escalating. Widespread destruction of riverine woodland is occurring along the Chobe River. Consequently the question of management of the herds has become an important issue. Fundamental questions are whether or not management of the population is yet necessary and, if it is, how it is to be effected. Protected and subjected to limited poaching pressure, the national herd is increasing at its maximum biological rate of some 7% per annum. This means an increase of around 2 800 elephants every year.

To the east it is bordered by the Limpopo River and its tributaries, the Ngotwane (Notwani), Marico (Madikwe), and Shashe.
