The Boston Bruins are a professional ice hockey team based in Boston, Massachusetts. They are members of the Northeast Division of the Eastern Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL). In 1924, the National Hockey League decided to expand to the United States. As a long-time hockey hotbed, Boston was a natural choice for the NHL's first American team. Adams' first act was to hire Art Ross as general manager. Ross stayed with the team for thirty years, including four separate stints as coach.

Whatever the reason, the Boston Bruins hold the patent on superstar defensemen who spend the vast majority of their stellar careers with the same team. Can the names get any bigger than Edward William Shore, Robert Gordon Orr and Raymond Jean Bourque, Hall of Famers all? In the case of Bourque, he is a Hall of Famer in waiting. Add a fourth Hall of Famer, Aubrey (Dit) Clapper, who was merely the first guy ever to play 20 NHL seasons, 11 of them on defense. All told, you've got 55 seasons and more than 3,000 games of Bruins hockey by Hall of Famers, spanning the years 1925 to the present. Among the four greats, only Shore (10 games with the New York Americans) and Orr (26 games with the Chicago Blackhawks), and now Bourque, ever played a game outside a Boston uniform.

With a dissapointing 2005-2006 season behind them the Boston Bruins can reflect and rebuild for next season. The Bruins finished last in their division with a record of 29-37-0-16. In a season that saw them lose their franchise player, Joe Thornton to the San Jose Sharks, the Bruins must establish a team identity if they are to improve next season. MONTREAL The Boston Bruins can beat just about any team in the NHL except their Northeast Division rivals, the Montreal Canadiens. "It's between the ears," said Bruins coach Claude Julien on Monday.
