Born on the Fourth of July: Ron Kovic
built 387 days ago
The trio of Tom Cruise, Oliver Stone and Ron Kovic makes "Born on the Fourth of July" an honest and powerful drama. Stone had served in Vietnam and earned a Purple Heart and Bronze Star during his tour of duty. His first hand experience is easily trumped by that of Ron Kovic, whom the story is completely based upon. The hectic battle sequences during the first third of the film are just as potent as anything seen in "Platoon" and Stone is able to drive home the notion of just how hectic the combat became. Kovic delivers a gripping story about the pain and suffering that a paraplegic veteran had to endure when returning home from the War. Kovic was gung ho about the war and it took a great deal to turn his emotions from supporting the war to protesting it. Cruise is the final piece of the trio and this is the film that first showed that Tom Cruise is an actor quite capable of a dramatic role and any questions that the studio had in having Cruise portray a wheelchair bound Vietnam vet were quickly answered by the actor.

Born on the Fourth of July Many people were affected by BORN ON THE FOURTH OF JULY. It had great cinematography. Its soundtrack was inspiring and beautiful, pulling out of the viewer all possible emotions. Tom Cruise's performance as Ron Kovic blew almost everyone away. In short, BORN ON THE FORTH OF JULY has what it takes to be a great film. It overcomes Stone's blatant manipulation of facts, such as the violent conflict that in the movie occurs during a republican convention, but in reality occurred during a democratic convention.

In Born on the Fourth of July, you can really see the horror Ronny is going through. How hard it must have been for him to come home from the war without the use of his legs. How difficult it was to go to the Wilson's home and tell that "Hey, I killed your only son." The pure emotion shown by Tom Cruise made that scene, as well as many other, truely exceptional.
