[I]f you've heard the name Bonnie Raitt but never investigated her music, Souls Alike is a great place to start. Although fans of Sheryl Crow and Shelby Lynne will find much to enjoy, there's more to Raitt than country-rock - blues, folk, jazz all find a place here and are mixed together by that indefinable quality Raitt has in spades. Another classy record from a woman on top of her game.

Now, nearly 35 years later, Raitt is still moaning the blues and playing her trademark slide guitar, which is heard on her latest album, Souls Alike. "It's very sexy and very powerful," she says of the instrument. "And depending on the groove you lay it on top of, it can be vengeful or erotic, or the saddest sound you've ever heard."

Raitt has gone on to release numerous albums since then, including “Luck of the Draw” (1991), “Fundamental” (1998), and “Silver Lining” (2002). Raitt’s most recent album, “Souls Alike,” was released in 2005.
While the brilliant and edgy collaboration effectively tanked Raitt’s gargantuan record sales, it inspired her creatively—to the point where she is still pushing the envelope, and still embracing Blake’s sonic alchemism. She took over the production gig herself for the first time in her career on her latest release, Souls Alike [Capitol]—Blake is credited as co-producer—proving once again that this “Ferocious Female” (as voted by GP readers in 2004) is one of America’s uncompromising musical treasures.
