Bonnie Raitt: Songs
built 627 days ago
Bonnie Raitt is an old hand. She's got the banter, a nice change of pace and the confidence of someone who's been doing this for a long time. But there's another side, too. The recklessness is gone. The songbook is almost completely devoid of the blues that first defined her and four encores has become three too many.

Bonnie Raitt is a blues singer and guitarist who functions with equal ease in the areas of blues-rock and folk-rock. She is an interpretive singer in an age of singer-songwriters, but she's a strong and distinctive one, with an engaging buzz-saw voice and a warm, relaxed stage personality.

Bonnie recorded a compelling cover of George Jones' song "Bartender's Blues," that you really must hear! In addition, the soundtrack features recordings by Kris Kristofferson, Bob Dylan, Drew Barrymore, Bruce Springsteen, Ryan Adams, Liza Minnelli and more!

You get a lot for your money here: about an hour and three-quarters of Bonnie Raitt songs, her hits and otherwise. Just about every song is a winner because her voice fits her blues- rock material extremely well and her band is outstanding. She comments at one point about her band being the "best" their is, and she may not be far off.

These performances will blow you away, especially the soulful rollicking and wailing guitars of Raitt and Harper on “Two Lights in the Nighttime” a particular highlight. For true fans, to witness this concert live must have been an opportunity of a lifetime. The only unfortunate thing is that some of the songs seen on the DVD are excluded from the CD. For instance, you’ll have to watch the DVD (well worth it) to see and hear “Papa Come Quick” (featuring Alison Krauss), “No Gettin’ Over You” (featuring Keb’ Mo’) and “Tennessee Waltz” (featuring Norah Jones).
