Jackson Browne, Emmylou Harris, Linda Rondstadt, Bonnie Raitt, Warren Zevon, DAVID CROSBY and GRAHAM NASH are among the artists slated to perform at a benefit concert for Westwood Music owner Fred Walecki on Aug. 8 at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. Proceeds from the "Friends of Fred Walecki" concert will help cover Walecki's medical expenses resulting from his recent surgery for throat cancer. Tickets go on sale through Ticketmaster.

An unannounced visit by Bonnie Raitt capped a splendid evening of music Tuesday night at the Mountain Winery by Bruce Hornsby and Ricky Skaggs, backed by Skaggs’ bluegrass band Kentucky Thunder. Hornsby once took a lot of grief for winning a bluegrass Grammy — it was that genre’s equivalent of Jethro Tull beating Metallica — but he clearly loves and understands the music. His piano fit seamlessly into the acoustic string band set-up; if you didn’t know the history, you’d figure Bill Monroe’s music always took a Steinway.
