Smokey Bones BBQ and Hometown Sports Bar is Darden's newest venture. It combines an all-American sports bar with great tasting barbecue favorites in a rugged cabin-themed atmosphere. The menu includes barbecue beef, smoked pork, baby-back ribs, pork spareribs and barbecue chicken. To round out the menu, there are steaks, grilled fish and steamed vegetable entrees. After initial concept testing, Smokey Bones began its national expansion in fiscal 2002. The restaurant mixes great tasting barbecue with mountain lodge comfort and exciting sports action. Smokey Bones grew to 19 restaurants and $42.4 million in sales in its first year of the national expansion. Darden plans to more than double the size of the restaurant company in fiscal 2003.

ORLANDO, Fla., Dec. 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Darden Restaurants, Inc. (NYSE: DRI) today announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to sell its Smokey Bones Barbeque & Grill chain to Barbeque Integrated, Inc. for approximately $80 million. Barbeque Integrated, Inc. is an affiliate of Sun Capital Partners, Inc., a worldwide private investment firm. The agreement is subject to customary conditions, consents and adjustments, but is not subject to any purchaser financing conditions. The sale is expected to close within 45 days. Banc of America Securities LLC acted as exclusive financial advisor to Darden on this transaction.
