[L]ooking past the art, “Bone” tells a truly epic story. It may seem cliché at first because of the fantasy elements, but Smith quickly takes the genre in a new direction. Through the series the characters actually grow and complete full arcs. They aren’t the same people at the end of the journey as they were at the beginning. It’s really refreshing to read a comic where there is change and its not just about the status quo.

In the 1990s, an attempt to produce a film of Bone through Nickelodeon Films was unsuccessful. According to Smith, Nickelodeon saw the story strictly as children's entertainment, and insisted that the Bone characters be voiced by child actors and that the film had to include pop songs by the likes of Britney Spears [2]and N'Sync.
