Bolshevism was in many ways, the application Marxism to Russian condition. However, it was a Marxism that led Marx to declare himself not to be a Marxist. The early Bolsheviks certainly borrowed from their populist rivals, and Lenin's early conceptions of the revolution were of the democratic dictatorship of the proletariat and the peasantry and of a constitutional republic. He fiercely argued against the immediate possibility of socialism in Russia, and it was Trotsky who first posed the notion of the permanent revolution in 1906.

One of the most outstanding features of Bolshevism has been its severe, exacting, even quarrelsome attitude towards the question of doctrine. The 26 volumes of Lenin’s works will remain forever a model of the highest theoretical conscientiousness. Without this fundamental quality Bolshevism would never have fulfilled its historic role. In this regard Stalinism, coarse, ignorant and thoroughly empirical, is its complete opposite.

According to the promising words of the new rulers, the victory of Bolshevism in Russia was to realize Jewish-Marxist doctrines and give the Russian people, and thereafter the whole world, paradise on earth. Behind this peaceful mask of an impossible and insane vision of human happiness... was the foundation of Jewry's plan to build and secure world rule. Even today, the world has only imperfectly recognized these threads of eternal Jewish striving throughout world history for absolute power. This true even though Jews have been proven to have acted with ruthless horror to destroy the self-aware forces of the Russian people as they erected the "dictatorship of the proletariat," the "workers' and peasant's state," through an unparalleled rule of blood. The fact that there is not a worker in the Soviet leadership, much less a peasant, is convincing proof of how little it is a state of workers and peasants. All really important positions in political life are filled by Jews and elements wholly dependent on them.

The “lefts” who tried to skip Bolshevism in their return to Marxism generally confined themselves to isolated panaceas: boycott of parliament, creation of “genuine” Soviets. All this could still seem extremely profound in the heat of the first days after the war. But now, in the light of most recent experience, such “infantile diseases” have no longer even the interest of a curiosity. The Dutchmen Gorter and Pannekoek, the German “Spartakists”, the Italian Bordigists, showed their independence from Bolshevism only by artificially inflating one of its features and opposing it to the rest. But nothing has remained either in practice or in theory of these “left” tendencies: an indirect but important proof that Bolshevism is the only possible form of Marxism for this epoch.

For a long time, the connection between Bolshevism and international Jewish financiers was kept out of sight. But the public mind has a way of destroying camouflage and boring through to first causes. Perhaps the complete record will never be known but sufficient information has come to light to show that behind the so-called "Russian" revolution eighteen years ago, there was a bulwark of indomitable Jewish finance. In reality it was a "Jewish" revolution.

Bolshevism may be characterized by strong organization, a commitment to world revolution, and a political practice guided by what Lenin called democratic centralism. Whether Bolshevism inevitably transmuted into Stalinism or whether historical circumstances caused the deformation is still in dispute.
