In four starts this summer for the Boise Hawks--a rookie team for the Cubs--the right-hander is 0-1 with a 3.21 earned run average. He's allowed 15 hits in 14 innings, striking out nine, sporting a WHIP of 1.36. Samardzija has... had the tendency to get wild, hitting four batters while tossing in a couple of wild pitches. His short season will come to a close in late July in time to report to camp for Notre Dame's first practices.

Last night, the Boise Hawks moved to within one game of clinching the Eastern Division Championship with a 9-0 win over the Spokane Indians on Thursday night. Jake Renshaw pitched a fine game throwing six shutout innings, allowing three hits and one walk. He had five strikeouts. Jason Ruhlman worked two innings and Alessandro Maestri retired three batters in the ninth inning. It was the fifth combined shutout of the season for the Boise pitching staff and second consecutive shutout against Spokane who did not score a run in the last 21 innings of the three game series. The Hawks finished the season series against Spokane with an 11-1 record.

The Boise Hawks continued their march towards a division championship Wednesday night completing a sweep of the Yakima Bears, 15-11. Marquez Smith had four hits for the Hawks, including his fifth home run of the season. Kyler Burke started the scoring for the Hawks with his eighth home run of the season in the second inning. Tony Thomas had a double and a triple to extend his hitting streak to 15 games, the second longest streak on the Hawks this season.
